Hi, I am a government servant. I checked my form 26AS and one of the entries for TDS deducted from my pay says "unmatched". Although it states correctly that the TDS deducted was X amount and TDS deposited was X amount. I told my office accountant about the same, but he says he cant do anythig about it. :( How to get this corrected?

Request to your employer for correcting the same. Your office accountant can revise return and rectify the mistake. As far as IT Dept notice is concern, IT Dept will not send any notice to you in this regard. But if you want to claim this amount then IT Dept will not refund to you because of unmatched statues of the said amount.

No it wont cause issuance of any notice to you. You need not worry simply take credit of TDS amount deducted from you while filing Income Tax Return.

In a recent development pursuant to the judgment of the Delhi High Court in Court on Its Own Motion vs. UOI 352 ITR 273, the CBDT vide Instruction no. 5/2013 [F.No.275/03/2013-IT(B)], dated 8-7-2013, directed all officers that -
when an assessee approaches the Assessing Officer with requisite details and particulars in the form of TDS certificate as an evidence against any mismatched amount, the said Assessing Officer will verify whether or not the deductor has made payment of the TDS in the Government Account and if the payment has been made, credit of the same should be given to the assessee. However, the Assessing Officer is at liberty to ascertain and verify the true and correct position about the TDS with the relevant AO (TDS). The AO may also, if deemed necessary, issue a notice to the deductor to compel him to file correction statement as per the procedure laid down.
So no need to worry even if the deductor is in default of depositing the TDS or filing of TDS return or has committed any mistake in filing of the TDS return.
