correct email id is required to be mentioned in the return. They will send the acknowledgement of your physical copy of return to this mail id. you immediately send mail to ask@incometaxindia.gov.in about your correct mail id , incorrect email id, PAN number, date of birth, e-filing ack.no, date of filing etc given in the return. But dont forget to send your e-filing acknowledgement file with your mail.

if u have mentioned wrong email id than it is not a big issue, you have two remedies
1. you should login at income tax site and get copy of ITR which u have filed there and u can take printout of the same and send physical copy of the same after signing it.
2. as per the procedure followed by IT department, when they process the ITR u get copy of acknowledgemt at your mail id, but in your case u have mentioned wrong mail id, u are not in the position to receive the same, than when u login at site u should follow following steps after login. a) u can see my account there b) u will find a option there "status of my return"
u can take the printout of the same, it will be sufficient evidence that u have filed ur return.
