11 March 2013 Reimbursement of medical bills of upto 15000 will not be a part of salary.

11 March 2013 so can we get deduction u/s 17?

11 March 2013 Since it is not a part of salary, there is no question of deduction.

11 March 2013 Reimbursement of medical expenses not exceed ing Rs.15,000/- is not a perquisite covered u/s 17(2). Therefore, neither it can be added to salary nor a consequential deduction can be claimed therefrom.

12 March 2013 You said it is not a part of salary so there is no qestion of deduction.

But if your employer can re-structure you salary and shfit some amount from your other allowance ( spcl allowance etc.) to medical reimbursement eligibility, you would get the exemption.
