Me and my parents are covered under a mediclaim policy taken by the company I work for. Can I claim 80d deduction on medical expenses incurred on my senior citizen parents which were not covered by that policy ?

Thank you sir but please recheck section 80d . It does provide that medical expenses incurred on senior citizen parents can be claimed provided there is no medical cover in their name. In my case since there was a medical cover at the time of incurring those expenses, I think I can't claim those expenses.
Deduction for the premium paid for Medical Insurance You (as an individual or HUF) can claim a deduction of Rs. 25,000 under section 80D on insurance for self, spouse and dependent children. An additional deduction for insurance of parents is available up to Rs 25,000, if they are less than 60 years of age.

@Ashish, Yes, you are right. Such medical expenses can be claimed as deduction u/s 80D(2)(d) provided there is no health insurance policy in force. In this case, since there already is a policy in force, I think no deduction u/s 80D can be claimed in respect of medical expenses.
