Income tax notice for senior citizen receiving pension incom

This query is : Resolved

09 April 2016 My mother is a senior citizen pensioner (age 65) with an early income of 276000 Rs p.a. She received a letter from income tax dept for FY 2013-14 that she should submit a response under the compliance tab of govt.tax portal after registering in the portal. The letter says that there is a time deposit exceeding 2 lakh in FY 2013-14. when we verified the passbook entries, we found that my mother invested a sum of 5 lakh in the bank senior citizen fixed deposit for the attractive interest rates as per the suggestion of bank officer. Rs 5 lakh was split into 2+3 and subsequently invested on sr.citizen deposit scheme on Apr 13,2013. she closed the fixed deposit on aug 2014 with an interest income of Rs34244. I have submitted the response in tax portal that it is self-investment out of exempt income and did not file ITR as her pension income is lesser than 3 lakh. The letter says that after submitting the response, we have to let the tax officer know within 20 days of the receipt of the letter that the response was submitted. But in that letter, No contact information is given except his name, tax ward and city. I need your help on what we need to do now. Is my response correct?..How do we let the tax officer know that the response is submitted?. There is no reply received from tax officer to the registered email id as well. Please advise.

10 April 2016 if you give reply online by login compliance tab that is sufficient. your mother income should not Cross taxable limit AY 2014-15 including pension and Interest income than you can justify your response.

10 April 2016 I think you have received notice for non filling of IT Return and Dept. were asking for reason so if your mother income is below exemption limit then you had to give reason of income below exemption limit that is appropriate also when you submit your compliance a email of submission would be come to registered email ID you need to check.but nevertheless you have submitted at least a reply which good sense of mind and you can find your jurisdiction by clink on link https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/KnowYourJurisdictionLink.html. meet the officer with all the data and computation of income.

10 April 2016 2 types of letters/notices are being received by the assessees from the income tax department.
In one of the types, the reasons are being asked. This can be done either by login in to income tax website and go to pending action and submit the reasons online OR by filing the income tax return.
In the second type, in addition to above, the assessee is directed to submit the said response physically as well, to the designated income tax officer. This is normally contained ion the last paragraph of the letter/notice from the income tax department.
