26 July 2024 If you want to cancel your GST registration and are unable to find the cancellation option after logging into the GST portal, follow these steps to troubleshoot and complete the cancellation process:

### **Steps to Cancel GST Registration**

1. **Verify Eligibility for Cancellation**:
- **Reasons for Cancellation**: Ensure that you have a valid reason for cancellation such as ceasing business operations, no longer being liable for GST, or any other valid reason under GST laws.

2. **Login to the GST Portal**:
- Visit the [GST Portal](https://www.gst.gov.in/).
- Log in using your credentials (GSTIN, User ID, and Password).

3. **Navigate to Cancellation Option**:
- Go to the **Services** tab.
- Click on **Registration**.
- Select **Application for Cancellation of Registration**.

4. **If the Option is Not Visible**:
- **Check Status**: Ensure that your GST registration is active and not already in a suspended or canceled state. If the registration is already canceled or suspended, you might not see the option to cancel it again.
- **Role and Access**: Ensure you are logged in with the correct role that has access to file for cancellation. Only authorized persons (like the primary authorized signatory) can file for cancellation.
- **Technical Issues**: There could be temporary technical issues with the GST portal. Try logging in after some time or using a different browser.

**Alternate Method - Contact GST Helpdesk**:
- **GST Helpdesk**: If you still can't find the cancellation option, contact the GST helpdesk for assistance.
- **Helpdesk Contact**: You can call the GST helpdesk at ______or email at [gst-seva@gov.in](mailto:gst-seva@gov.in) for support.

**File Application for Cancellation**:
- **Fill Application**: Once you access the cancellation option, fill out the application form with details such as the reason for cancellation, and submit any required documents.
- **Submit Application**: Ensure that you submit the application and receive an acknowledgment of receipt.

**Post-Submission**:
- **Confirmation**: After submission, you will receive a confirmation message or email from the GST portal regarding the application status.
- **Response from GST Department**: The GST department will process your application and may request additional information or documents if necessary.

### **Detailed Steps for Online Cancellation**

1. **Log in to the GST Portal**:
- Use your credentials to log in.

2. **Navigate to the Registration Section**:
- Go to **Services** > **Registration** > **Application for Cancellation of Registration**.

3. **Fill Out the Cancellation Form**:
- **Reason for Cancellation**: Specify the reason for canceling your GST registration.
- **Details**: Provide all required details and upload any supporting documents.

4. **Submit and Confirm**:
- Submit the application and confirm the submission through the portal.

### **Additional Considerations**

- **Pending Returns and Payments**: Ensure that all pending returns and payments are cleared before applying for cancellation to avoid any compliance issues.
- **Audit or Pending Notices**: If there are any ongoing audits or notices from the GST authorities, address them before proceeding with cancellation.

### **Example Scenario**

**Example**: If you are a registered dealer and decide to cancel your GST registration due to ceasing business operations, follow these steps:

1. **Log in**: Access the GST portal.
2. **Navigate to Cancellation**: Find and select the option to apply for cancellation.
3. **Fill Application**: Provide a reason (e.g., ceasing business operations) and any required documents.
4. **Submit**: Complete the submission process and wait for confirmation.

By following these steps, you should be able to cancel your GST registration. If you encounter persistent issues, contacting the GST helpdesk is a crucial step to resolve any technical or access-related problems.
