Recently I came accross an advertiesement which said - you will be administratively reporting to country head with DOTTED REPORTING to Finance Head.

There are two types of reporting in an organisation, viz, administrative and functional-
In the organizational structure of an organisation administratively reporting is shown with a line and functional reporting is exhibitted with a dotted line.
Reporting to someone administratively means that person is the official supervisor, with formal responsibility to hire, train, evaluate, pay and dismiss the person.
Reporting to someone functionally means the person is in a more senior role in the business function and is therefore responsible for providing with guidance and general direction on matters pertaining to business function.
