Dearness allowance (D.A.) is part of a person's salary, it is calculated as a percent of the basic salary, and added to the basic salary along with house rent allowance to get the total salary. This calculation is based on the AICPIN up to the month of November 2010. Once the DA rate touches 50%, the allowances like conveyance allowance, children education allowance etc will be increased 25% more.
