26 July 2010 Dear Experts,

A is a salaried individual (Female) working in a Private Limited company.

A has taken Mediclaim Insurance (amount around Rs.15000/-) for her family including her dependent mother.

In the financial year 2009-10, A's mother had eye operation (Cataract) and a portion of hospital bill, amounting to Rs.18000/- was paid by Mediclaim Insurance Company.

Query

In view of the facts mentioned above, Now A has a query whether A is eligible for a claim of Rs.15000/- under Section 80D in her Income Tax Return.

Ans : ..................

I shall wait for the Experts' views.

26 July 2010 80 D IS ALLOWED UP TO RS 15000 BECAUSE IT IS AVAILAIBLE FOR THE PAYMENTS OF PARENTS WETHER PARENT IS DEPENDENT OR INDEPENDENT HOWEVER IF PARENT IS SENIOR CITIZEN RESIDENT THEN IT IS ALLOWED UP TO 20000 SO A CAN CLAIM

26 July 2010 Yes agree with GAURAVJI.
AMOUNT PAID BY THE MEDICLAIM COMPANY IS NOT INCLUDED IN a's income.

26 July 2010 Just answering the query more appropriately.

Deduction u/s 80D is available on pymt of premium. Whether the insurance claim is received or not during the year does not effect the availability of deduction.
