22 September 2010 Invoice is the basic document for availing CENVAT,you need to keep the invoice alongwith the register for CENVAT

23 September 2010 do I also need to ask for Service Tax Payment challan or any other documents which proves that the payment has been made.

23 September 2010 which record available with you for cenvat credit keep all records with you. like GAR7 (servuce tax deposit by you)Cartage detail, in which service tax deposit. Input service Bill, Service Tax register. all party service Tax No. in which service tax cenvet credit taken.etc.
