Regarding income tax Query

my doubt is whether an individual can file the return without paying the self assessment tax and showing in efile retun as payable. if it is yes kindly tell me consequences for the above matter.

i requesting to u to send epert opinon as early as possible

29 September 2009 This is what many assessees did during last year filing of returns, when there was no compulsory e-filing of returns due to cash flow reasons.

I do not think anybody would have tested whether the system accepts or no.

However, filing such a return would only lead to a notice alongwith additional interest from the period the return is filed to the date assessment is made based on the notice issued

29 September 2009 In my view yes you can file the return by showing the tax payable in your return

29 September 2009 Penalty under section 221(1) will attract unless the assessee proves that there was good and sufficient reasons for the failure to pay self assessment tax.

29 September 2009 Agree wth B.Chackrapani Sir, Penaly may be leveid
