02 March 2013 How to calculate Excise Duty

03 March 2013 Excise Duty is calculated on assessable value (Sale Value) @ 12 % or at that rate which is applicable on your product. Then Education Cess @ 2% and Higher Education Cess @ 1% on amount of duty.
For Example, if sale value is Rs. 10000/=
Duty will be Rs. 1200/=
Ed. Cess will be Rs. 24/=
Higher Ed. Cess will be Rs. 12/=
Total Duty will be Rs. 1236/= which can be said in percentage 12.36% of the assessable value.
