Leave encashment taxable / non taxable

01 August 2013 Dear Sir / Madam,

Please let me know that whether leave encashment received post retirement from a Government Undertaking Company (Government of West Bengal) is taxable or non-taxable in the hands of the employees.

Your valuable comments on the above matter is sincerely solicited.

01 August 2013 In the case of Central/ State Government employee, any amount received as cash equivalent of leave salary in respect of period of earned leave at his credit at the time of retirement/ superannuation is fully exempt from tax u/s 10(10AA)(i). So its not taxable & it will be show as exempt income.
