Dear Sir, I have received a Income tax demand intimation email from CPC on 20th October for AY 2008-09 .
Details are :- Demand DIN* Raised under section 1431a Demand Raised Date 31-03-2010. Demand outstanding 29250 Demand Uploaded By CPC .
For AY 2014-15 I raised a refund request for Rs 16350 and that's the email also says that "The Refund determined during processing is being adjusted against the outstanding demands."
The mail also asks me write to AO for rectification .
I don't have any documents for 2008-09 and also at that year I changed my job twice and my 2nd employer did not give form 16 before 31st July . So the person who filed the IT return manually on my behalf made some adjustments due to it. So I believe this outstanding demand is coming from that. I don't want to contest it although I wished that such demand could be sent to me much earlier when I had the option to verify the amount.
My question is , If I don't want to do anything regarding this will the CPC website show the revised demand after adjusting with this year's refund status ? After that can I pay the taxes with Challan 400 online to settle the matter completely ?
I stay outside India and just want to keep my Income Tax record clean.
Kindly let me know whether contacting AO is mandatory for such notice .

You can resolve problem by pay demand amount pay by challan or if you does not want do this so department can adjust amount form your refund amount. you does not need if you feel demand raised by department are correct.

Thanks all our experts for giving suggestion.
It took a burden off my shoulder.
Just one more question. My outstanding demand was 29250 and my refund amount claimed was 16000 only. So full amount can't be adjusted by IT department.
Should I wait for another intimation from CPC with the new outstanding demand amount and then pay by challan? Will the new demand be uploaded in CPC ?
Regards and many many thanks, Ritwik Bhattacharyya

Demand will be adjusted out of refund. If demand is in excess than refund allowable, balance out standing will attract interest till total outstanding is clear off.
