Income tax computation of arrear of pension

03 February 2018 My Age is 78 years, and i am receiving pension amounting Rs. 7800/- per month.I have received amounting Rs. 17,00,000/- as arrear of Pension. My department has deducted my Income tax on the basis of current Income tax Slab.Hence, please let me know that how to compute my income tax correctly because i think the way they deduct my income tax is wrong and along that if my Income Tax will be low as compared to current deducted income tax then how to claim my Income tax refund.

Please reply as early as possible.

03 February 2018 You can claim relief under Section 89 by calculating the income tax due on arrear for each year being added to that year’s total income . Please refer to calculations given for calculating this relief in section 89.
