16 August 2012 dear Experts

one of my friend, he paid rent 5000/-PM but his employer shows HRA in payslip Rs.938/- PM only, his basic is 14400/-PM and his employer HRA not mentioned in form 16, now my query is how to claculate HRA in this case and howmuch take exemption for HRA while filing of return ?

17 August 2012 HRA exemption has to be calculated as per sec.10(13A)

Minimum of following is the exempted amount

1. Actual HRA
2. 40% of salary (50% incase of metro)
3. Actual rent paid Less 10% of Salary

Salary= Basic salary + DA(if considered in retirement benefits)

18 August 2012 thanks, but HRA not mentioned in form 16, shall he get exemption under 80gg ?

18 August 2012 No. since your salary structure having HRA. you cannot claim the benefit of Sec.80GG. you can calculate your self the HRA exemption asper sec.10(13A) If employer fails to consider. but 80GG cannot claim.
