24 July 2024 If you have not filed your income tax return for the Assessment Year 2009-2010 and now wish to file it, here are the steps you can follow:

1. **Collect Necessary Information**: Gather all the financial documents and information related to your income, deductions, and taxes paid for the Assessment Year 2009-2010.

2. **Select Correct Form**: Identify the correct income tax return form for Assessment Year 2009-2010. Typically, for individuals, it would be ITR-1 (Sahaj) or ITR-2, depending on your income sources and other criteria.

3. **Download the Form**: Download the appropriate ITR form from the Income Tax Department's website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in).

4. **Fill Out the Form**: Fill out the form with accurate details regarding your income, deductions, taxes paid, and other required information for the Assessment Year 2009-2010.

5. **Calculate Tax Liability**: Calculate your tax liability for that year based on the information provided in the form.

6. **Verification**: Verify all the details entered in the form to ensure accuracy.

7. **Generate XML File**: Once the form is filled correctly, generate the XML file using the utility provided on the Income Tax Department's website.

8. **Upload or Submit**: Log in to the income tax e-filing portal (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in) using your credentials. Upload the XML file and submit the return online.

9. **Verification of ITR-V**: After submitting the return online, if applicable, you will receive an ITR-V (Acknowledgement) form. Print it, sign it in blue ink, and send it to the Centralized Processing Center (CPC) of the Income Tax Department within 120 days of e-filing.

10. **Acknowledgment**: Once the ITR-V is received and processed by the CPC, you will receive an acknowledgment email from the Income Tax Department confirming the filing of your return.

Please note:
- Since the Assessment Year 2009-2010 is quite old, you may need to manually enter the data into the ITR form or use the offline utility available on the income tax e-filing portal.
- Ensure all information entered is accurate to avoid any issues or delays in processing your return.

If you face any specific issues or have questions while filling out the return, consider consulting a tax professional or contacting the Income Tax Department helpline for assistance.
