Confused with vat and tin

This query is : Resolved

14 May 2014 Hi,I want to open a business of cashew selling to the super market chains in Bangalore mainly along with Gujrat and Rajasthan. My permanent address is at Kolkata where I want to open my office as i don't have any permanent address at Bangalore. But i will purchase the cashew from Mangalore which is in Karnataka. So,please guide me in which place I should open my office as vat percentage differs in different state and should I get a TIN in West Bengal?Actually,I am not aware which are the process i have to go through to start this business.Thanks.

14 May 2014 It seems that you are not intending to do any business in Kolkatta

You plan to buy cashews in Manglore and sale those in Banglore (both karnataka) and in Gujarath and rajasthan

So it is advisable you register yourself in Karnataka vat (for the purpose you may have to obtain on lease some office place). You will get registration for Karnataka Vat and also for CST in Karnataka state. For sales and purchases in karnataka you have to charge vat and you will be charged vat (set off availible)

For sales outside state of karnataka that is rajasthan and gujarath you will charge CST (no set off availible)

Regards

14 May 2014 But, I am confused with TIN.is it required?Do,I have to apply for TIN,CST differently?

14 May 2014 can I get any solution from this perspective?

15 May 2014 Hello

TIN is Tax Identification Number. it is a sales tax registration so TIN Registration is no way different from VAT registration

e.g your TIN No is 123456789
your vat no is 123456789V
your CST No is 123456789C

regards
