Compuation of capital gain

This query is : Resolved

25 January 2016 dear sir,
i want to compute the capital gain from sale of share, and i have only share holding statement, but i am unable to compute the capital gain because there is no detail of share purchase earlier. please help me that how can i compute the capital gain.

25 January 2016 date of purchase of share is required to compute capital gain.If you have bough share on which STT is paid(i.e, listed shares in NSE,BSE.etc) then if you sale such shares after one year Gain arise on such sale is exempt from incometax. but if sold before one year subject to short term capital gain and taxable.

25 January 2016 you need to capture the details as to date of purchase etc. without which you may not be able to compute. If you are sure that the shares are bought beyond 1 year and STT is paid at the time of sale, then you can show it under EXEMPT. But for computation, date of purchase is required. Else the entire sale proceeds may be treated as capital gain.........
