Attire Allowance

This query is : Resolved

07 October 2009 In case of attire allowance, it is tax free, upto the limit of allowance (as per policy of the company) , which is the part of gross salary and employee has to provide cloth bills to employer. I want to know that whether employee can take exemption for the expenses related to his/her clothes only or expenses on the clothes of family members i.e. parents, spouse and children, can also be the part of it?

07 October 2009 Sec 10 (14) says "any allowance to meet the expenditure for purchase and maintenance of UNIFORM for wear during the performrnce of duties of an office" is tax free to the extent the allowance is utilised for the purpose specified above.

So, uniform is not required for any members of employees family as they do not work for the company and no tax benefit if you spent something for those who are not employees of ur org.
