It is always easy for others to pass judgement but if you have the will and passion for the course you will surely have time to devote for your training, studies and personal life. Yes, it is not going to be easy to get all that we want in life right from day one, we need to sacrifice and lose something to gain something.
If you get a exposure from a good firm nothing like that, it will facilitate to face the world more confidently. Always note in order to be successful, we need to toil to toil hard and work smart. There are no shortcuts for success, as the saying goes in life there are no escalators for success, you need to climb one step at a time.

Remove the thought of joining a mediocre firm and look positive by joining a top firm if you get an opportunity. Think positive and achieve your goals on a high note rather than starting your career on a defensive note. Equip yourself with a big desire and dream to reach your goal. If you work in an average firm you may end up attaining short term objective and may be crippled in the long term. Think and take a wise decision.

Knowledge is no ones exclusive domain the almighty has blessed each one with rightful quantum and it is up to us, how we use them. The advantage working in a big 4 is you get to work in a highly competitive environment right from day one. The infrastructure in terms of work etiquette is well laid out in terms of regular training aligned with best global practice, which you may not find it in a mediocre firm.
I know where your thoughts coming from in asking this question. In today's era of specialization you got to decide before joining which is your core area and where lies your passion. Do not compel to get into an area where your heart and mind isn't ready to work. It is true that you will be put into a particular stream of learning cum working. You would at the end of the day become a master in one particular area and that's the need of the hour. Once you feel saturated in one particular area and move on to something more, once you qualify you explore those options in a fast and dynamic environment.

You seem to have already fixed to a mindset, thinking that if you wish to enter into practice at a later stage working in a mediocre firm you will give you more time. I am sorry, your usage of the term mediocre itself is flawed, instead you could say a medium or small firm. A mediocre means something which is of only average quality.
People yearn getting into big 4 and make a mark in their career, why are your crippling your thoughts of working in a tepid environment where your exposure could be limited. Think big and achieve big, positive thinking is the only way to determine your personality.

top firms assigned job only on some particular area not on all the areas. if u have the option to join in top firm join, but my sincere advice is that after getting the exposure in particular area go for another area.

I perfectly agree with the fact that it is good to join the firm wherein we get exposure in all the areas like, vat, cst, excise, customs, service tax, pf esi , pt, tax audits, and vat audits
