20 March 2012 Dear All,
I am a student and I also freelance doing computer repairs, and taking tutions. I will be filing my IncomeTax for the period 1/4/2010 - 31/3/2011. During this time, I have had an income of 1,90,000 from tutions and computer repairs; which I have used for my expenses.

Am I liable to pay service tax for this amount? If yes, how much? and if not? can you tell me the scheme under which i am exempt??

20 March 2012 No Because your gross receipt not Exceeded the limit of Rs 10 lakhs.

20 March 2012 Is there a need to register with the sales tax department in such case?

20 March 2012 No at all...Just chill....You are not selling any goods so you are free from sales tax liabilites and all other liabilites..... except income tax that too only on Rs. 10000

Appreciate your concern at such a early stage.......

20 March 2012 Agree with CA nikhil Jhanwar Sir,

21 March 2012 You have indicated that your profit is 1.90 lacs but to determine the tenability and applicability of Service Tax you have to give the gross figures. In case your gross receipts does not exceeds 10 lacs then the answers as given by the experts are correct and you are safe and you are neither required to get registered nor liable for payment of service tax
