Last updated: 21 September 2007

A Centre for Excellence in Business Management for chartered accountants is being opened in Hyderabad with an outlay of Rs20 crore, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi president H Sunil Talati said on 21 September. Talati, who was here to attend the two-day Andhra Pradesh state-level conference on professional excellence organised by the Southern India Regional Chartered Accounts of India, told mediapersons that the centre was being set up for efficient training to CAs. He said they also have plans to open such centres in Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur. The all-India body has a membership of 1.40 lakh and every year around 78,000 students appear for examination of which 37 per cent come out successful. Every year 10,000 to 15,000 students enroll for CA course, he added. He said ICAI has 29 accounting standards and they have also introduced ‘international financial reporting standards´ so that all over the world a balance sheet would be the same without any alteration. A dress code and logo for identification of CAs has also been introduced, he said. On CAs indulging in unethical practices for helping tax payers, Talati said in last five years, around 200 members were removed from ICAI and every year about 100 are punished, if they were found indulging in wrong practices.
