The Assam GST Department has issued Circular No. 01/2023 dated July 07, 2023, which mandates the furnishing of a valid rent agreement/lease deed duly registered with the Sub-Registrar or competent authority for registration under GST. The circular states that this is necessary to prevent fake/bogus registration and duping of government revenue.

The following are the requirements for a valid lease deed/rent agreement for GST registration in Assam

  • It must be registered with the Sub-Registrar's office.
  • It must be in the name of the business entity that is applying for GST registration.
  • It must specify the address of the place of business.
  • It must be dated within the last 12 months.
