Whats the eligibility criteria for appearing for GMCS course

Hey guys,

I have jus cleared PCC in the June 2009 exam and i have 1.5 yrs of articleship remaining !!!! when am i eligible to apply for GMCS and wat r the centres ,,,,, post the links if possible ...

Congrats Noel,

u can join GMCS Course at any time during last 12 months of ur Articleship.

General Management and Communication Skills ..... its a personality development compulsory cousre which u have to complete before giving CA final else u cant get final certificate i guess,,,,,,,its compulsory like ITT.............................duration is for 1 month ,,,BTW congrats bro....

ya..after 2 yrs..u r eligible..ders a form which u need 2 submit alongwith a letter frm ur CA on his letterhead stating dat u hav completed 2 yrs...n d fees for it is Rs. 4500/- which i hav heard Mr.uttam Prakash is going to increase by 3 times soon...n d duration for dis is 15 days..n nt 30 days..u hav 2 attend it frm 9.30 to 5.30..dressed in all formals..n its related 2 communication n presenatation skills,etc...n der r also grps formed..n projects given 2 b presented...

Scheme - Course on General Management and Communication Skills

The 15 Days full time Course on General Management and Communication Skills was introduced in the year 2002 to equip the entrants to the profession with interpersonal and management skills and provide exposure to the contemporary issues in the ever changing socio-economic scenario. This course is a prerequisite for membership enrolment of the Institute under Regulation 51A/72A

Objectives

To equip the entrants of the profession with some essential skills, such as:

¨ General Management and Business Communication Skills

¨ Presentation Skills

¨ Group Discussion skills & Inter-personal skills

¨ Legal document preparation skills

¨ To enable the participants to become more confident and capable of using the knowledge gained while doing the Chartered Accountancy Course

¨ To increase level of awareness of management theory and practice with the ultimate aim of self-development

¨ To provide opportunities for personal interaction with fellow students and senior members of the profession.

Eligibility

¨ A student who has passed Intermediate / Professional Education (Examination – II) / Professional Competence Course and is serving his last 12 months of articles is eligible to complete the course. The requirement of compulsory attendance in this course applies to all the Articled/ Audit Assistants:

A student after being declared successful in the Final Examination under old or new scheme can be admitted as an associate member only after completion of the course on General Management and Communication Skills

¨ A student who completes Three Months’ Residential Programme in General Management, Personality Development and Communication Skills organized by the Board of Studies will not be required to undergo GMCS Course.

Course Structure

The Course is organized by the Regional Monitoring Committee at the Regional Head-Quarters and by the Chairman at Branch level. The Dubai Overseas Office of ICAL also conducts the Course.

Faculty

Faculty is drawn from experienced and well-known members of the profession, management consultants/ trainers, members of the academic community from Universities/ Management Institutions, etc. To enable intensive training, batch size does not normally exceed 50 students.

Duration

¨ The duration of the course is 15 days full time. Classes are held 6 hours each day. The suggested timing are-

9.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. (with half and hour break)

2.00 p.m. - 5.30 p.m. (with half an hour break)

¨ The broad allocation of time to cover the course contents are as follows:

Part A- General Management – 30 hours

Part B – Communication Skills – 30 hours

Part C – Practical – 30 hours

Teaching Methodology

Training is imparted systematically through a Training Calendar. Multiple instructional methods including lectures, case studies, presentations, group discussions, management games, projects, mock interviews, etc. are used.

Fees

Generally the fees will not exceed Rs.4000 per student in India, on non-residential basis, inclusive of Course and study materials.

Exemption from payment of fees to Disabled Students for undergoing General Management and Communication Skills Course

Disabled Students are exempted from payment of fees for undergoing the Course on General Management and Communication Skills. Such students can either opt to (i) attend all the classes or (ii) appear in two test papers of 3 hours each after a period of 15 days from the date of registration after thoroughly studying the Background Material.

Definition of disabled students

Blindness – “Blindness” refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions, namely:
- total absence of sight;
- visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses; or
- limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.
Low vision – “Low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device.
Leprosy cured – “Leprosy cured” means any person who has been cured of leprosy but is suffering from
- loss of sensation in hands or feet as well as loss of sensation and paresis in the eye and eye-lid but with no manifest deformity;
- manifest deformity and paresis but having sufficient mobility in their hands and feet to enable them to engage in normal economic activity;
- extreme physical deformity as well as advanced age which prevents him from undertaking any gainful occupation, and the expression “leprosy cured” shall be constructed accordingly.
Hearing impairment – “Hearing impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.
Locomotors disability – “Locomotors disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.
Permanent and total loss of voice – a disabled student has to submit a certificate of suffering from disability, certified by a physician / surgeon / oculist working in a Government hospital, as the case may be.

(c)	*Basic Management of Meetings* Types of meetings; Preparation of Agenda; Arrangements before meeting, at meetings and post meeting; Conduct and Procedures of Meetings; Minutes Drafting.
(d)	*Art of Public Speaking* What is Public Speaking, Preparation of Speech, Selecting the talk on the basis of occasion, Timing the speech, Addressing a crowd, developing general knowledge through reading and other processes.
(e)	*Representing before various Governmental and Other Agencies*
(f)	*Art of Negotiation* Objectives; Assessment of strengths and weaknesses; Preparation of arguments/proposal; Dos and Don’ts in Negotiation; Arbitration and Conciliation
*Part B: Communication Skills*
1.	*Drafting of letters, reports, deeds, documents etc.,* Principles of Drafting, Contents of draft; Hints on legal drafting; Drafting letters; Report Writing; Agreement Drafting; Drafting Memorandum of Understanding and other documents and deeds; Preparation of Project Reports..
2.	*Simple Précis Writing and Comprehension*.
3.	*Modes of Communication* Effective communication and its advantages; Written Communication; Listening skills; Barriers to communication; Telephone/Computer based communication like voice mail; email, SMS etc.; Telephone Etiquettes; Dos and Don’ts of Effective Communication.
4.	*The Art of Presenting one-self* Preparation of Curriculum Vitae; Preparation for interviews; Dress Code at Interviews, meetings and elsewhere; Dos and Don’ts at the interview; Conduct at the interview; Personal hygiene; Elementary Body Language, Body Postures and Poise.
5.	*The Art of making presentations.* Planning and preparation; Collecting and Collating Data for the presentation; Designing the Presentation structure; Use of visual aids; Handling Audience; Conduct during presentation .
