Saving my penalty

hello everyone..

last year i did not submit my return..i had an income of 500000..being in govt job i had paid around 70000 in tds..

if this im filling my return..for the last year i hv to pay penalty for 2000..is there any way to save myself from d penalty

Who told you ke filing of belated return required to pay Rs.2000/- as penalty.

Assessing office may raise penalty u/s 271F of Rs.5000/- its only discreationery of Assessing officer.

and frankly speaking No assessing officer raise any penalty u/s 271F.

stiill in doubt revert back

i agree with mr. ganeshan... i can only guess that 2000 that you are talking about may be interest u/s 234a. and of this os correct then you have to pay that amt.

@ singh: I am not talking about Interest u/s234A.... 

@ ganeshan... i know you are not talking about it. but i am making a guess about it and that second part of my answer was for mr. prasoon.
