I have a client who is an individual having a PAN. And now he started a sole proprietory business with same PAN. My question is can he apply for change in the name appearing on the Pan Card i.e Darsh Harish Shah to Darsh H Shah & Associates ???

Dear Achal
In case of sole propreitorship, you need not apply for a change in the PAN to the name of the "trade name" in which the person intends to carry on the business.
You can refer the instructions for filing Form 49A, Instruction.(f) Item No.1 wherein it mentions "
| In case of sole proprietorship concern, the proprietor should apply for PAN in his/her own name. |
| Name should not be prefixed with any title such as Shri, Smt, Kumari, Dr., Major, M/s etc." |

Also, while filing ITR, you need to file it in the name and PAN of the propreitor. However, there is a provision in the ITR to mention the "Trade Name".

Dear achal you need not to change the name on pan card since for a properietorship concern pan is alloted in the name of individual proprietor instead in the name of firm. A person can do any no.of business undr proprietorship status having single pan in the of individual proprietor.
No Need to Change name in the PAN card, since it is a properitorship, he can be assessed in Income tax with his name.
