Itr-v receipt delay

I filed one ITR form 4S on 5th June 2011. The ITR-V for the same was sent to Banglore CPC office on 19th Sep. 2011 by ordinary post. But today I received reply from them that ITR filed is rejected as ITR-V is received after the prescribed period. What's the remedy to this? Can I request the authorities to condole the delay and accept the return filed.
