writing off preliminary expenses and pre-operative expenses

I want to know whither in case of a company preliminary expenses and pre-operative exps are to be written off in 5 years or in 10 years. plz ans.

Preliminary expenses are to be written off in the same year to the extent profits are available. Preoperative expenses are to be capitalised.
