01 March 2021 Hello, I haven't went office for 6 months after 1 year completion of articleship due to personal and family issues. Now after 6 months I want to take transfer because I don't wanna work in that office. I haven't talked to my principal in these 6 months and is it possible to take transfer now

11 July 2024 Taking a transfer from your articleship after a prolonged absence can be challenging, but it may still be possible depending on the circumstances and the policies of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Here are some steps you can consider:

1. **Contact ICAI:** Reach out to your regional ICAI office or the appropriate authority handling articleship matters. Explain your situation clearly, including the reasons for your absence and your desire to take a transfer.

2. **Documentation:** Prepare any necessary documentation, such as:
- Proof of your absence due to personal and family issues (if possible).
- Any communication or correspondence you may have had with your principal during this period (if applicable).
- Any other relevant documents that can support your case.

3. **Request Transfer:** Submit a formal request for transfer to ICAI. This request should outline:
- The reasons for your absence and delayed request for transfer.
- Your desire to continue your articleship under a different principal due to personal reasons.
- Any specific preferences or requirements you have regarding the new office or principal.

4. **Principal's Consent:** While it's ideal to have your current principal's consent for the transfer, especially after such a long absence, it may not always be mandatory. ICAI will consider your case based on the documentation and circumstances provided.

5. **Follow ICAI Procedures:** Follow any specific procedures or guidelines provided by ICAI for requesting a transfer. This may include filling out specific forms or providing additional information as required.

6. **Professional Conduct:** Maintain professional conduct throughout the process. Even though there may have been a lapse in your articleship, demonstrating maturity and a commitment to completing your training can strengthen your case.

7. **Seek Guidance:** If you are unsure about the process or need further assistance, consider seeking guidance from a mentor, senior colleague, or a professional advisor familiar with ICAI articleship procedures.

While taking a transfer after such a period of absence may have its challenges, approaching the situation with transparency and providing clear documentation can improve your chances of obtaining the transfer. Always adhere to the guidelines and regulations set forth by ICAI to ensure a smooth transition.
