Telephone Bill Reimbursment.

This query is : Resolved

27 October 2009 My company is paying me Rs.1000/ pm under head of Telephone expense which is part of salary and deduction from mu annual CTC.

Now account dept has guided and insisting to support voucher with the valid bill for audit purpose.

My feeling is that if it is part of my salary then supporting should not be imposed on employee?

I seek your expert advise.

27 October 2009 Your accounts department is correct. Telephone bill reimbursed will be tax free but if it is paid as fixed allowance it would be taxable.

Now u have to decide based on your actual telephone bill and your tax rate for marginal income.

27 October 2009 For income tax purposes, bill needs to be submitted. As this is kind of reimbursement, bills would be required like wise in case of Medical Reimbursement.
