taxability of salary recieved by sailor

This query is : Resolved

08 March 2011 Dear Sir

One of my client (NRI) who is working as a seafarer for a foreign ship has received salary in dollars which is being credited to his NRE SB maintained with Vijaya Bank in India. The salary is credited by his employer directly in dollars, which is converted to indian rupees by the Vijaya Bank. Is the salary receieved by him taxable in India?

But if the amount is recieved in India isn't it taxable in India as per Basis of Charge??Salary here is not a mere remittance by the assessee but direct credit to bank so what's the view from tax point??Is it taxable in India??

08 March 2011 IT IS FOREIGN INCOME AND IT IS EXEMPT UNDER SECTION 6 OF THE IT ACT, EVENTHOUGH IT IS REMMITTED TO INDIA DIRECTLY
