In my view, Hire charges received is a receipt from the supply of transportation services. It is not relevant that the item transported falls under the NON-GST supply item.
However, Transportation of goods by road other than GTA services is exempted under GST. Under this provision - payment received against transportation of goods is not subject to GST. Request other experts to share their views.
