revised retun: forgot to fill self assessment tax column

This query is : Resolved

04 February 2010 Hi,

I forgot to fill Self Assessment Tax column in my original 2009-2010 return. As per return tax payable is Rs. 4720. I have already paid the said tax before filing original return. I have Challan with me. Now what should I do? should I go for revised return? I have heard that they scrutinize all the revised return. Is it true? I haven't done anything illegal, but to produce information asked under section 143(2) by ITO is always difficult to get and time consuming.

Also I haven't filled the Schedule IT section, so there is no mention of the tax paid in my entire return.

Please help.

Thanks

04 February 2010 Its not a big issue. You can file a revised return. Not all revised return will be taken for scrutiny. Or else you can wait till you get a letter from the Department for paying the tax amount. At that time you can produce the tax paid challan and request the assessing officer to complete the assessment.

04 February 2010 file a revised return

04 February 2010 Agree. it is not so that every revised return will come under scrutiny.
Also, on filling revised return will automatically replace your original return.

04 February 2010 you should file Revised Return

05 February 2010 Thanks Guys,

I am going to file revised return.

Thanks
