25 May 2010 Dear Sir, Please consider the example:
A Private hospital earning income from their in-patient, such charging room rent and other treatment charges.
Room rent is charged to patient with out service tax. Since, hospital turnover was Rs. 1.5 crores per month.
Query:
1. Whether the hospital is liable to Service tax?
2. If yes or no, Please explain

25 May 2010 All services are not taxable. Only notified services are taxable.

So far renting Service is concerned, it is taxable(as per amendment by Finance Act, 2010), if used for the purpose of Business or Commerce by the tenant.

Specified Medical Services(not all) shall be taxable from a date to be notified, which is likely to be wef 01.09.10.
