We are GST Registered in New Delhi and GST registered in chennai both places. We have taken a Vehicle insurance which is running in Chennai Station and Vehicle registered in Tamilnadu. In our insurance policy GST number is mentioned of Delhi Zone i.e. New Delhi GST Number but the Vehicle is running in Chennai, .Request you to advise us can i take credit of GST amount (Mentioned in Insurance policy)in New Delhi . regards,

It has now specifically been mentioned in Section 17(5) of the CGST Act (negative list of ITC) that Input tax credit of GST paid on services of insurance, servicing, repair and maintenance of motor vehicles shall not be allowed, except in a few cases In case , you fall in such exemption category under section 17(5) ie vehicle for transportation of goods etc It is not necessary that vehicle registration and vehicle insurance should be of same state . In my view , You can take policy from Delhi Office even though vehicle got registered in Chennai
