19 November 2011 please suggest in which situation the provident fund contribution from employee and employer is exempt.

Pf is applicable to trainee employees also?

21 November 2011 The only test is that the establishment is "Factory" under the provisions of Factories Act.

Another kind of exemption may be notified by the government for any industrial developemnt area for specific period (generally not more than 3 years) from the date of commencement of business.

The employees getting stipend are not eligible for PF deduction.
