Pension for defence employees

This query is : Resolved

27 July 2012 Dear Sir/Madam,
Whether pension recd. for defence employees is taxable under Income Tax Act -1961?

It's urgent.

Thanks

27 July 2012 It is very much TAXABLE. There is wrong notion of many DEFENSE officers about this. It is because, in MAHARASHTRA, they are exempt from Professional Tax. Many a times these people are having high RANKS and it becomes difficult to convince them. The best way is to ask them to get the circular from their PAY OFFICE. (These people imediately surrender on this argument)

27 July 2012 In case of employees of Central & State Govt. Local Authority, Defence Services and Corporation established under Central or State Acts, the entire commuted value of pension is exempt. Thanks

29 July 2012 Sir,
Pension received from United National Organisations is exempt from tax.

So I want to know that whether AIR Force Employees get salary from UNI?

Please resolve my query.

10 August 2024 These are not connected with the UN. Salaries and pensions of Indian Air Force employees are paid by the Government of India and are subject to Indian tax laws. Indian Armed Forces pensions are generally exempt from tax under Section 10(10) of the Income Tax Act, but this exemption is specific to Indian regulations and does not relate to UN pensions.
