We start new business and take VAT registration in May 2017 but due to funds shortage we not to do any sale purchase long time and file NIL return regularly. But our accountant no file our NIL return from Aug 2017 to till and we not do any sale purchase during this period, I want to know that any tax liability is outstanding our side or not if yes how much ?.
Our accountant advice that to surrender this GST no. and apply same name again after 1 month but he told me tax liability stand due and its notify me after few month.
Please advice us can i continue this GST (with penalty) or surrender it an apply for new. what is best for me.

As per Your Reply You are filed Nil Returns under VAT regime. But, Can't file returns under GST... Am I right...? And Your accountant advice to you as surrender the GSTIN and apply new one....
Please tell me, Your business is migrated from VAT to GST or Not...? If not then no need any actions for surrender and go to new one... If yes then go to File your all returns and continue the GSTIN* for your business...

Thanks sir #RAJA PM & # CA Anmol for your valuable response, First is our VAT is migrated to GST and allotted me permanent GSTIN and secondly our GST is active its not cancelled by authority.. Our accountant told me from aug 2017 to till outstanding penalty liability is approx 10 K ...It is mandatory to pay or any other way to waiver / exempted from this penalty.
