A group company means the management of that company commonly have atleast 20% ownership and voting rights.
Usually if the Managing Partners of a partnership firm are also managing other firms in which their ownership and control is not less than 20 %, then that group of firms can be said to be a group of firms.
Likewise, companies also. If the 20 % voting right is commonly available in so many companies, then that group of companies can be said to be group companies.
