Self Study is good, But in Final DT is more comprenshive and detailed than PE2 DT. You can follow the notes of Vinod Gupta which is available at pooja law house.
For Direct Taxes you may go for TN Manoharan especially for Theory part. My other choices would be Girish Ahuja or Vinod Gupta’s CA final Modules.

Regarding coaching I would suggest you to go for DT Classes at least for continuity of your study and in coaching you may also learn various things from your batch mates along with your teacher.

I have read all the above views . I think DT is paper which is more related to the realities of life and the concerned prof should be able to bring in the classroom those real life examples and interpret the provisions. Tax paper can be made interesting or can be made boring by the Prof.
In general, Classes will clear your concepts and add to your regularity of touch withthe subject and bring more diversity to your understanding of the paper...
