Is cleaning of public places exempt from service tax?

This query is : Resolved

08 August 2011 One of my client is contracted by Nagar Nigam for cleaning of roads and parks of the city. Is this service exempt from service tax? If yes then under which notification?

08 August 2011 If cleaning is done by a govt. authorised agency or by municipality then it is exempt form service tax but if it is done by any other not a govt agency then the collection made by that will be chargeable to service tax and all the rules of service tax will be applcable to that.

08 August 2011 Sorry sir I still don't get it. You mentioned two things, 'govt. authorised agency' and 'govt. agency'. My client comes under govt. authorised agency not under govt. agency. So is he exempt from paying service tax?

08 August 2011 Also Can you please mention any notification regarding this.

13 August 2011 Cleaning of public places under the agreement with municipalities and corporation not covered under service tax

16 August 2011 Yes HyperSonic
