20 July 2012 First, I would like to know the purpose behind this. If you are inquiring for doing PHD, yes there are some universities which recognize CA, equivalent to Masters degree.

However, you are not allowed to represent your self as a post graduate.

20 July 2012 Thanks Shashank,

and what about NET exam of UGC, can a CA sit for NET examination

01 August 2024 The Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification is a highly regarded professional certification, but its equivalency to a master's degree can be a nuanced topic. Here's a breakdown of the comparison and the possibility of appearing for the NET examination:

### **1. **Equivalency of CA to a Master’s Degree**

- **Official Recognition:** In India, the CA qualification is considered equivalent to a postgraduate degree for certain purposes, but it is not universally classified as a master's degree. The CA course is a professional qualification, and its recognition can vary depending on the context and the organization.

- **Education and Experience:** The CA qualification involves rigorous training, examinations, and practical experience, which is comparable to the depth of knowledge gained in a master's degree program. However, it is distinct from traditional academic degrees.

- **Notification/Recognition:** The official recognition of CA as equivalent to a master's degree can be context-specific and may not be uniformly documented in notifications. For official purposes, including academic equivalency, you might refer to the specific guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or other relevant authorities.

### **2. **NET Examination and CA Qualification**

- **Eligibility for NET:** As per the guidelines of the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC, a CA can appear for the NET exam. The NET exam is typically for candidates with a postgraduate degree who wish to pursue teaching or research positions.

- **CA Qualification and NET:** CA professionals, due to their advanced qualifications and professional experience, are generally considered eligible for NET, particularly in the subject of Commerce or related fields. The CA qualification is recognized as an advanced professional certification, and candidates with CA qualifications can apply for the NET exam.

### **References and Notifications**

- **UGC Guidelines:** For the most accurate and updated information regarding eligibility and equivalency, refer to UGC notifications and guidelines. UGC periodically issues notifications about eligibility criteria for various examinations and qualifications.

- **Official CA Body:** The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) may also provide information regarding the recognition of CA qualifications in different contexts.

### **Summary**

- **CA vs. Master’s Degree:** While the CA qualification is highly respected and involves extensive training, it is not uniformly classified as a master's degree. Its equivalency can depend on specific contexts and regulations.
- **NET Eligibility:** CA professionals can appear for the NET exam, especially if they are seeking to enter academia or research roles.

For specific official notifications or clarifications, consulting UGC guidelines or ICAI documents would be advisable.
