Input credit on Service tax paid on computer software

This query is : Resolved

17 August 2010 We have purchased a Customer support computer software on which the vendor has charged us service tax. The computer software being a fixed asset in this case, can we avail cenvat credit on the service tax input. If yes, then will it be in two installments (in 2 years. Also do we have to deduct TDS on this payment.

17 August 2010 Yes CENVAT credit can be availed on this. There is no need to avail the credit in two tranches. The service tax has been charged by your vendor as under "Information Technology Service".

Let the query be open for TDS portion

21 August 2010 Software purchase will not attract any TDS, So no need to deduct
