If you've filed your Income Tax Return (ITR) but the refund cheque was returned due to an incorrect address and you’ve already requested a refund reissue via CPC without response, the next step is to apply to the Assessing Officer (AO) for the reissue of the refund. Here’s how you can approach this:
### Steps to Write to Assessing Officer for Refund Reissue
1. **Draft a Formal Application:** - You will need to write a formal letter to your Assessing Officer (AO) requesting the reissue of the refund. This letter should include details about your case, including the incorrect address and the steps you have already taken.
2. **Application Details:** - **Subject:** Application for Reissue of Refund Due to Incorrect Address - **Content:** Explain the issue clearly, including your PAN, the Assessment Year (AY), the incorrect address, and the correct address.
3. **Include Relevant Documents:** - Copy of the ITR - Copy of the refund cheque that was returned - Proof of the correct address (e.g., utility bill, bank statement) - Any communication with CPC regarding the refund reissue request
### Sample Application Letter:

**To, The Assessing Officer, Income Tax Department, [Address of the Local Income Tax Office]**
**Subject: Application for Reissue of Refund Due to Incorrect Address**
**Dear Sir/Madam,**
I am writing to request the reissue of my income tax refund for the Assessment Year [YYYY-YY], which was returned due to an incorrect address.
I had filed my Income Tax Return for the above-mentioned AY, but due to an incorrect address mentioned in the ITR, the refund cheque was returned. I have already submitted a request for refund reissue to the CPC, but have not received a response.
I kindly request you to process the reissue of my refund and send the cheque to the correct address mentioned above. Please find attached copies of the ITR, the returned cheque, and proof of the correct address.
I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
Thank you.
**Yours sincerely,**

### Submission:
- **In Person:** Submit the application to your local Assessing Officer's office. - **By Post:** Send the application via registered post to ensure it reaches the correct office. - **Online:** If available, check if the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal allows for such requests online.
### Follow-Up:
- **Track the Status:** Follow up with the AO’s office to ensure that your application is being processed. - **Confirmation:** Obtain confirmation of receipt and processing of your application.
By following these steps, you should be able to address the issue and facilitate the reissue of your refund. If you encounter difficulties, seeking help from a tax professional or consultant may provide additional support.
