10 December 2010 DEAR EXPERT,

Please tell me,
Can a individual assessee file a return of income under income tax act even if his gross total income does not exceeds the maximum exemption limit.

Does income tax act prohibits the individual assessee for the same.

please provide me proper reference of section for the same.


11 December 2010 Dear Rakesh

An individual is in obligation to file return if his income exceeds maximum amount not chargeable to tax. However u can file return if ur income is not exceeding amount not chargeable to tax. You can refer Sec 139(1) of income tax act. Income tax act donot prohibits individual from filing there return.
