HRA Proof in not mentioned in Form 16

This query is : Resolved

15 July 2011 Hi,

I left the last company in Aug, 2010..However I could not send them the Rent Reciept. Now they sent me Form 16 where HRA deduction is not mentioned..i have Rent reciept with me.

What to do in this case as I this becomes tax liability for me. Can I attach this rent reciept with IT Return Form as proof??
I have already paid Advance Tax and Self Assessment Tax as required.

15 July 2011 You can claim HRA.
*
Form 16 given by the employer, sometimes may not be covering all the income as well as deductions in the absence of relevant information.
*
There is no need to attach anything with the return. RE-Calculate your income by considering the HRA exemption.

15 July 2011 ITO will not ask any proof on HRA Claim if it appears in Form 16

16 July 2011 Thanks to both the experts. However My concern is that I failed to send them the Rent Receipt to my previous employer and hence it is not mentioned in Form 16. However I have the rent receipt with me.

In that case, whom to give this proof now so that I can justify that I have paid rent against the HRA furnished to me?? If I file return considering HRA exemption...IT dept have no proof to scrutiny..

16 July 2011 file return considering HRA exemption...

there is no need to attach anything with the return

Proof can be asked by AO at the time of Scrutiny nad if you have the proof, no need to take the tension only think about the hra exemption

16 July 2011 Thanks a lot to Mr Navin and Mr. Paras for prompt response...I am much relaxed now.
