Hra & int on home loan

This query is : Resolved

20 December 2013 suppose I am salaried person,Can i Claim both HRA and Interest on home loan as tax deductions at the same time in my It return?and is it possible that even if i have self occupied house ,i can claim rent for rented property at other place!!!please guide me for the same as early as possible

20 December 2013 as such you can claim both. But how would you do it in case you occupying the owned property?? You may still very well claim both as the condition for claiming HRA is simple: you should not be owning the property against which you are paying rent!! and that you should have actually paid rent on the property (rented) occupied by you. So as long as you are occupying the property against which rent is being paid, it can be allowed.

20 December 2013 Dear Shraddha,

There is no bar on doing so……

Section 10(13A) does not carry a condition which says that the assessee should not be owning a house etc.

Thus, you can have an SOP and also claim the HRA deduction.
And, if you have an SOP, you can obviously claim the interest on housing loan deduction u/s 24.

Incase you have any doubts, you can ask

20 December 2013 yes you can claim both.
How ever there are certain conditions to be met.
Please read both the Sections throughly.
Regards.
