18 January 2014 "Mr. A" (owner) has rented a house to "Mr. B" (tenant) @ 20000/- p.m. In turn "Mr. B" sub-lets the house to "Mr. C" @ 30000/- p.m.

(1) Is "Mr. C" entitled to claim HRA benefit u/s 10 of the Income Tax Act?

(2) Can "Mr B" & "Mr C" both claim HRA benefit as both are paying rent?

18 January 2014 1. Yes Mr. C is entitled too HRA exemption.
2. Both Mr. B & Mrc. C can avail HRA benefit.

3. Income from subletting shall be taxable in the hands of Mr. B under the head income from house property.
