28 July 2024 It's understandable that job searching can be stressful, especially if you're facing challenges related to experience and salary expectations. However, honesty and integrity are crucial in the job market. Providing false information can lead to serious consequences, including job loss and damage to your professional reputation.

Here's some advice on how to navigate this situation while remaining honest and improving your chances:

### 1. **Addressing the Discrepancy**

**1.1. Company Size and Turnover:**
- **Consistency:** Ensure that your answers about the company size and turnover are consistent and realistic. If your company has 20 employees and a turnover of ₹45 lakhs per annum, it would be unusual to have a high salary like ₹3 lakhs per annum. This mismatch can lead to skepticism.
- **Realistic Figures:** Adjust your figures to be more in line with industry standards. For instance, if your company’s turnover is ₹45 lakhs, a salary of ₹3 lakhs per annum might be considered low. Re-evaluate and provide figures that make sense.

**1.2. Salary Disclosure:**
- **Market Standards:** Research the salary range for your role and experience level in similar-sized companies and industries. Align your expectations and disclosures accordingly.
- **Transparency:** Be honest about your salary history but try to provide context. If asked why your salary is lower than expected, explain any unique circumstances or constraints.

### 2. **Improving Your Position**

**2.1. Emphasize Skills and Experience:**
- **Highlight Knowledge:** Focus on your skills and the value you bring to potential employers. Emphasize your practical knowledge, expertise in accounts, and any additional skills that make you a strong candidate.
- **Relevant Experience:** Highlight the skills and experiences you gained during your articleship and any other relevant experience. Explain how these experiences have prepared you for the role you're applying for.

**2.2. Bridge Experience Gaps:**
- **Alternative Experience:** If corporate experience is required, consider any freelance work, consulting projects, or internships you might have undertaken. These can be valuable in demonstrating your skills.
- **Skill Development:** If necessary, invest time in acquiring additional certifications or training relevant to your field. This can make you more attractive to potential employers.

**2.3. Honesty in Job Applications:**
- **Avoid Falsification:** It’s crucial to avoid falsifying your experience or salary details. Being honest helps in building trust with potential employers and avoids complications later.
- **Explain Your Situation:** If you have gaps or discrepancies, be prepared to explain them honestly. Highlight any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

### 3. **Practical Steps for Your Job Search**

**3.1. Revise Resume and LinkedIn Profile:**
- **Update Information:** Ensure that your resume and LinkedIn profile reflect accurate and truthful information about your experience and skills.
- **Professional Help:** Consider seeking assistance from a professional resume writer or career counselor to present your experience effectively.

**3.2. Networking:**
- **Connect with Industry Professionals:** Networking can be a powerful tool in finding job opportunities. Connect with professionals in your field and attend industry events to learn about openings and gain referrals.

**3.3. Apply Strategically:**
- **Tailor Applications:** Apply for positions that align with your skills and experience level. Tailor your resume and cover letter to each job application.

**3.4. Prepare for Interviews:**
- **Practice Responses:** Be ready to answer questions about your previous experience and current salary expectations. Practice responses that reflect your strengths and the value you offer.

### Conclusion

While it's tempting to provide inflated or inaccurate information to secure a job, the best approach is to present your true skills and experiences and be honest about your past roles and compensation. Focus on improving your skills, understanding market standards, and applying strategically. Honesty and a clear explanation of your background will help build credibility and increase your chances of finding a job that fits your qualifications and expectations.
